Which errors does an STP encoding protect against?

Analyze protection and fault-tolerance overhead under specified collective noise, noncollective noise, measurement errors, and leakage.

Discuss this question
Working mathematical formulation

For an encoded STP architecture, specify collective and noncollective noise, measurement errors, and leakage. Determine which logical degrees of freedom are protected by symmetry and whether an error-correcting or fault-tolerant construction has a favorable overhead.

Why this is interesting

The protected multiplicity degrees of freedom give a concrete physical motivation, but a full robustness claim must account for symmetry-breaking errors and imperfect control.

Explicit variants

  1. Fusion-compatible codes

Find bounded-size multiplicity encodings for which physically available destructive singlet/triplet refinements preserve logical information or act only on a gauge subsystem. Specify the Kraus maps for every useful outcome, resource-factory cost, and a loss/noise model; compare against a named fusion-computing architecture. A two-outcome projector and a destructive refinement are different instruments.

A place to start

Model a small encoded register under collective rotations and a single local perturbation; compare logical disturbance and the detectability of leakage through permitted measurements.
